ISA salutes anaesthesiologists for advancing safety, precision, and compassion
HYDERABAD, Oct 17 – (The CONNECT) – The Indian Society of Anaesthesiologists (ISA) Hyderabad and Telangana Chapters celebrated World Anaesthesia Day with great enthusiasm at Hotel Plaza, Begumpet, attended by over 200 doctors and their families.
Themed “From easing pain to ensuring safety, Anaesthesiologists care all the way,” the evening featured cultural performances and camaraderie among the city’s anaesthesia professionals. The event honoured three senior anaesthesiologists — Dr Raja Narsing Rao, Dr MSRC Murthy, and Dr Padmaja — for their outstanding contributions to the field.
World Anaesthesia Day, observed annually on October 16, marks the 1846 public demonstration of ether anaesthesia by Dr William T.G. Morton, which revolutionised surgery by enabling painless operations.
ISA Telangana Secretary Dr Venkateshwara Rao said the day celebrates one of medicine’s greatest milestones — the birth of modern anaesthesia. Dr Venugopal Kulkarni noted that anaesthesiologists are the “unsung heroes” ensuring patient safety and comfort in every surgery.
India has over 50,000 anaesthesiologists, including 7,000 in Telangana and 3,000 in Hyderabad. The field has advanced from traditional methods to ultrasound-guided anaesthesia, enhancing precision and reducing complications, shared Dr Srikanth.
Dr Aditya Vikram Kabra urged the National Medical Council to recognise anaesthesiologists as perioperative specialists, vital to patient recovery and safety. The celebration concluded with a vote of thanks and applause for the profession’s silent guardians.
