From tailoring to weddings, grassroots women gain market-ready skills
HYDERABAD, Jan 11 (The CONNECT) — Nearly 1,000 women and girls trained under FICCI FLO Hyderabad’s flagship skilling initiative, Skill Her, graduated on Saturday, marking a significant milestone in the Chapter’s grassroots empowerment efforts.
The participants were trained at the FLO Skill Centre in Bhongir, near Hyderabad. The programme is designed to equip women with practical, income-generating skills aligned with local market demand, enabling sustainable livelihoods and economic independence.
According to FLO Hyderabad, the graduating batches included 158 women trained across three tailoring batches, 122 women completing three batches of maggam embroidery, 65 women graduating from the beautician course, and 90 women trained in mehendi design.
In addition, FLO Hyderabad’s Wedding Initiative benefited 255 grassroots women through hands-on training in wedding-related services and crafts.
The initiative enabled participants to earn seasonal yet sustainable incomes during the peak marriage season, contributing directly to household financial stability.
The community-focused skilling drive was led by Prathibha Kunda, Chairperson of FLO Hyderabad, as part of the Chapter’s broader mission to provide women with employable skills, confidence, and dignified livelihood opportunities.
The graduation ceremony was attended by Chief Guest M. Hanumantha Rao, District Collector and Magistrate of Bhongir, and Special Guest Akshansh Yadav, Superintendent of Police, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri District.
Addressing the gathering, Kunda said skill development had the power to create lasting social change. “When a woman learns a skill, she doesn’t just change her life—she transforms her family’s future and uplifts her community,” she said.
The ceremony was marked by pride and celebration as participants received certificates—many for the first time in their lives. Several graduates shared stories of starting home-based enterprises, contributing to family incomes, and gaining confidence through their newly acquired skills.
