Short of lockdown, Maha on 15-day Janata Curfew

Uddhav launches COVID Bhagao drive; allowances, free rations for poor

Don’t get upset, work with govt like soldiers, says CM Thackeray

MUMBAI, Apr 13 (The CONNECT). Giving ‘Covid Bhagao’ (Chase Covid) call, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray tonight announced 15-day ‘Janata Curfew’ type restrictions on movements.

The new restrictions will come into force at 8 Pm tomorrow.

While restricting all non-essential movements, Thackeray said the poor people, autorickshaw drivers and maids who will be hard hit will get allowances and free rations during the period.

All public activities, offices, religious places, spas and cinema houses will be shut. Restaurants and bars will also be closed but takeaway service will be available.

Thackeray also made a fervent plea to all sections not to be upset, but work on a war footing with the government in containing the virus.

The restrictions were on cards for long time, but the government was waiting for the Hindu New Year day Gudi Padwa to pass, today.

The opposition BJP had opposed another lockdown, but supported restrictions with reliefs to the poor.

The CM’s string of announcements will hopefully silence them.
