Failure is very important. And it has many values to teach. I am what I am today because of my injuries and failures. said Gopichand.
HYDERABAD, Dec 12 (BNC Network) - Unlike many other careers, sports career lasts for very few years. When you are in the peak of your career, the career doesn’t last beyond a couple of years.
Pointing out these, Indian badminton coach Pullela Gopichand said the pandemic disrupted short careers of many sports personnel. It is depressing, he said participating in virtual panel discussion on ‘Building High-Performance Leadership’ at TiE Global Summit on Wednedsay. He however pointed out that defeats, setbacks, failures are part and parcel of sportsmen’s lives.
He opined that the COVID forced break has given time for them to work on their weaknesses and ultimately catch up with what they always longed for.
“In my case, though I may sound strange, it is a fact that this is the best time for me,” he narrated. “I have been travelling for 30 years. This has given me time to catch up with myself to focus on me, work on all those that were demanding time,” he said and declared: “When the world resumes to normalcy, I can go to face it with renewed physical and mental strength.”
Replying to a question on failures, he said going from one failure to the other with the same amount of enthusiasm, zeal, a determination is success by itself. So, failure is very important. And it has many values to teach, he said and pointed out: “I am what I am today because of my injuries and failures.”
Speaking about his plans, Gopi said the ‘Pullela Gopichand Academy’ is planning to set up Sports Science Centre, an R&D facility at its Gachibowli campus at Hyderabad. A new academy will be set up at Bhubaneshwar. “We have tied with schools in Hyderabad and Bangalore, Gopichand,” he added.
