Justice for disabled delayed in Telangana

State Govt takes shelter under COVID care

HYDERABAD, Sep 1, 2020 (BNC Network): DWAB, an NGO formed by the visually challenged, 20 years ago and running a blind school Nalgonda School, met D.Divya, Special Secretary for Women and Child Welfare and Disabled, over the weekend here. 

A delegation comprising of its President Kollu Venkata Subbaiah, Ponugoti Chokka Rao General Secretary and Paramesh Treasurer, presented a memorandum and requested the Government to pay an amount of Rs. 3000 per month as pension for the visually impaired school going Children aged between 06 to 14 years. 

They also requested the top official to send the current year grant-in-aid file to the Government of India immediately.

“We have also requested to implement the Persons with Disability Act 2016 immediately, duly insisting to appoint a disabled person as the Commissioner for Disabled welfare in Government of Telangana,” said Chokka Rao.

According to the Act, disabled person must be made the Commissioner. But, that never happened. The Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016 is not being implemented in the state, which should be done with immediate effect, the memorandum said.

Responding to their representation, Divya assured the representation that she would take necessary steps for resolving all the outstanding issues after COVID - 19 recedes.
