Pay 5% GST on Oxygen eqpt, sanitizers, COVID test kits
NEW DELHI, June 13 (The CONNECT) - Following public demand, GST on specified items being used in Covid-19 relief and management has been reduced to 5% from the existing 12% to 18% slabs. Ambulances which attracted a 28% tax, will now be charged 12% - the highest in COVID relief category.
The 44th GST Council met under the Chairmanship of Union Finance and Corporate Affairs Minister Nirmala Sitharaman through video conferencing on yesterday. The reliefs will be valid till September 30.
GST of 5% has been scrapped on just two items - Tocilizumab, Amphotericin B
Among the high-cost drugs, a Tocilizumab drug Actemra 400mg Injection carries an MRP of Rs 40,600 as per netmeds.com. This was in short supply and The Print a story saying in was selling at Rs 2 lakh each in black market.
Tocilizumab, currently being used to treat critically ill Covid patients, is originally a rheumatoid arthritis drug. It helps to reduce pain and swelling due to rheumatoid arthritis. It is also used to treat giant cell arteritis, The Print said.
Meanwhile, GST has been reduced from the prevailing 12% to 5% across the board for anti-Coagulants like Heparin, Remdesivir. Any other drug recommended by Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) and Dept. of Pharma (DoP) for Covid treatment will also carry a GST of 5%.
Oxygen, Oxygen generation equipment and related medical devices such as Medical Grade Oxygen, Oxygen Concentrator/ Generator, including personal imports thereof, Ventilators, Ventilator masks / canula / helmet, BiPAP Machine, High flow nasal canula (HFNC) device and Testing Kits and Machines all attract 5% GST.
Covid Testing Kits such as Specified Inflammatory Diagnostic Kits - D-Dimer, IL-6, Ferritin and LDH – will be charged a 5% GST.
Other Covid-19 related relief material that attract a 5% GST include Pulse Oximeters, including personal imports
Hand Sanitizer, Temperature check equipment, Gas/Electric/other furnaces for crematorium, including their installation which used to be levied a GST of 18% will now get a 13% relief.
