‘Double Engine’ for Doubling Growth Speed: PM in North East

It means united effort towards prosperity, says Modi

PM Modi said there is no match of a double engine government when it comes to work with double speed.

AGARTALA, Jan 4 (The CONNECT) - Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasised on his Double Engine doctrine and said “there is no match of a double engine government when it comes to work with double speed.”

Double engine – BJP rule at the Centre and States - means proper use of resources, Modi said at the inauguration of the new integrated terminal building of Maharaja Bir Bikram (MBB) Airport here.

“It means sensitivity and boosting the power of the people, it means service and accomplishment of resolutions, it means united effort towards prosperity,” Modi, who also launched several initiatives like Mukhyamantri Tripura Gram Samriddhi Yojana and Project Mission 100 of Vidyajyoti Schools, said.

Stressing on the same point at an event at Imphal, too, Modi said due to the continuous efforts of the double engine government, there is no fire of extremism and insecurity in this region, but there is light of peace and development. Hundreds of youths across the North East have left arms and joined the mainstream of development.

The Prime Minister said the agreements which were pending for decades have now been concluded. From a ‘blockade state’ , Manipur has become a state giving way for international trade, he said

Modi said the India of the 21st century will move forward by taking everyone along with the spirit of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas and Sabka Prayas. Unbalanced development where some states lag behind and people deprived of even some basic facilities is not good. This is what the people of Tripura have seen for decades, he said.

Modi recalled the times of relentless corruption and governments with no vision or intention of development of the state. After such a scenario, the Prime Minister said,  the current regime came up with the Mantra of HIRA - H to Highway, I to Internet way, R to railways and A to Airways for improving the connectivity in Tripura.

He said the airport is a blend of Tripura’s culture, natural beauty and modern facilities. The airport will play a big role in enhancing air connectivity in the North East. The Prime Minister pointed out that work is going on in full earnest to make Tripura the gateway to the northeast. Road, rail, air and water connectivity infrastructure is getting unprecedented investment. This is turning Tripura into a new hub of business and industry as well as a trade corridor.

The Prime Minister said that his Government has resolved to 'Act East' for the Northeast. He said God has given so many natural resources, so much potential to this region. There are so many possibilities for development and tourism here. He added that work is now being done to realise these possibilities in the North East. Northeast is now becoming the gateway to India's development, he added.

He said Manipur has been a state giving one of the rarest gems for the country. The youth here and especially the daughters of Manipur have made the country proud all over the world. Especially today the youth of the country are taking inspiration from the players of Manipur.

He said this decade of the 21st century is very important for Manipur. He lamented the loss of time in the past. He added that there is not a single moment now. “We also have to maintain stability in Manipur and also take Manipur to new heights of development. And only the double engine government can do this work”, he emphasized.

Modi also inaugurated 13 Projects worth around Rs. 1850 crores and laid the foundation stone of 9 projects worth around Rs 2950 crore in Imphal, Manipur today. These projects relate to diverse sectors such as Road Infrastructure, Drinking Water Supply, Health, Urban Development, Housing, Information Technology, Skill Development, Art and Culture, among others.
