Buy Electoral Bonds from Oct 1 to 10

Meanwhile, CPI (M) leader Sitaram Yechuri demands scrapping of the Electoral Bonds.

NEW DELHI, Sep 29 (The CONNECT) - The government has opened the Electoral Bonds for purchase by the people from October 1 to 10 at designated bank branches in the 22nd phase of the scheme.

As per the Electoral Bond Scheme 2018, the instruments can be purchased by Indians singly or jointly.

Only the Political Parties registered under Section 29A of the Representation of the People Act, 1951 (43 of 1951) and which secured not less than one per cent of the votes polled in the last General Election to the Lok Sabha or the State Legislative Assemblies of the State are eligible to receive the Electoral Bonds.

The BJP spent over Rs 340 crore in the Assembly polls in five states held earlier this year, while the Congress shelled out more than Rs 194 crore for its campaigning in these states, according to the election expenditure reports of the two parties, media reports said.

According to the report filed by the BJP and put in public domain by the Election Commission, the party spent more than Rs 340 crore on its campaigns for the Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Manipur, Goa and Punjab Assembly elections held this year, the reports said.

Reacting to these reports, CPI (M) leader Sitaram yechuri demanded scrapping of the Electoral Bonda. Taking to Twitter, he said: “This is how money power is destroying democracy. BJP ‘central office’ and 5 state units reported receipts of Rs 914 crore in 63 days! Nowhere in the world is democracy, by law, allowed to be funded opaquely and anonymously.”

The Bonds can be encashed by an eligible Political Party only through a Bank account with the Authorized Bank.

The Electoral Bonds shall be valid for fifteen calendar days from the date of issue. The Bond deposited by an eligible Political Party in its account shall be credited on the same day.

State Bank of India (SBI), in the XXII Phase of sale, has been authorised to issue and encash Electoral Bonds through its 29 Authorized Branches as per list given below:
