New Delhi Leaders’ Declaration Adopted Unanimously
In a big win for India’s G20 Presidency, PM Narendra Modi said the leaders are united in consensus and spirit.
NEW DELHI, Sep 9 (The CONNECT) – As Prime Minister Narendra Modi underscored that “History has been created”, the G20 Summit has adopted the New Delhi Leaders’ Declaration focusing on Strong, Sustainable, Balanced, and Inclusive Growth, Accelerating Progress on SDGs, Green Development Pact for a Sustainable Future, Multilateral Institutions for the 21st Century and Reinvigorating Multilateralism.
The 37-page declaration said the G20 leaders “are determined to steer the world out of its current challenges and build a safer, stronger, more resilient, inclusive and healthier future for our people and the planet”.
Sharing the digital copy of the key document, the Prime Minister posted on X (formerly twitter): “History has been created with the adoption of the New Delhi Leaders’ Declaration. United in consensus and spirit, we pledge to work collaboratively for a better, more prosperous, and harmonious future. My gratitude to all fellow G20 members for their support and cooperation.”
“We reiterate our commitment to the G20 as the premier forum for global economic cooperation and its continued operation in the spirit of multilateralism, on the basis of consensus, with all members participating on an equal footing in all its events including Summits,” the leaders said.
Acknowledging the disproportionate impact of climate change, biodiversity loss, desertification and pollution on all women and girls, the leaders called for accelerating climate action with gender equality at its core. To this end, they said, “we will Support and increase women’s participation, partnership, decision-making and leadership in climate change mitigation and adaptation, and disaster risk reduction, strategies and policy frameworks on environmental issues”.

They declared their determination to support gender-responsive and environment-resilient solutions, including water,sanitation and hygiene (WASH) solutions, to build resilience to the impact of climate change and environmental degradation.
Women’s food security and nutrition is the cornerstone of individual and community development as it lays the foundation for women’s health, as well as that of her children, family and general well-being of the community, the declaration admitted.
The leaders will, therefore, encourage investments in inclusive, sustainable and resilient agriculture and food systems; support accessible, affordable, safe and nutritious food and healthy diets in school meal programmes and promote innovation for inclusive agri-value chains and systems by and for women farmers.
G20 will also Support gender-responsive and age-sensitive nutrition and food system interventions by leveraging innovative financing instruments and social protection systems in ending hunger and malnutrition.
They agreed to create a new Working Group on Empowerment of Women to support the G20 Women’s Ministerial and said they look forward to the convening of its first meeting during the Brazilian G20 Presidency.
The G20 leaders welcomed the Financial Stability Board’s consultation Report on Enhancing Third-party Risk Management and Oversight. We expect the toolkit to support efforts in enhancing the operational resilience of financial institutions, addressing the challenges arising from their growing reliance on critical third-party service providers, including BigTechs and FinTechs, as well as reducing fragmentation in regulatory and supervisory approaches across jurisdictions and in different areas of the financial services sector.
