Women Cricketers Are Game Changers

Every six they hit and every wicket they take is a step toward equality in sports, says Kay Morland.

HYDERABAD, Sep1 (The CONNECT)- Women’s cricket is rewriting the rules of the game, proving that passion and talent know no gender, according to Kay Morland, International Inner Wheel President from Australia,

Speaking as the Chief Guest at the inaugural ceremony of the Inner Wheel Champions Cricket League (IWCL), Morland said, from dusty grounds to world stadiums, women cricketers are inspiring a new generation of dreamers.

“Every six they hit and every wicket they take is a step toward equality in sports,” she said and remarked: “Women in cricket are not just playing the game—they are changing the game.”

The much-anticipated IWCL will be held tomorrow at Shourya Convention, Yousufguda, Hyderabad.

Former Indian cricket captain Mohd Azharuddin, Vijay Mohan Raj, Former Ranji player will be the Guests and inaugurate the matches.

Four zonal teams will compete, with two semi-finals and a grand final scheduled as part of the one-day carnival, hosted by District 315.

A lavish opening ceremony was held this evening at Shourya Convention. The celebrations began with the inauguration of “Naya Bazar,” an exhibition showcasing local merchandise from across the country.

Adding to the spirit of empowerment, the program “Suno, suno, meri awaaz—ordinary women doing extraordinary things” highlighted inspiring stories of Inner Wheel women achievers. The evening came alive with a special performance by Saxophone Subbalakshmi, a Guinness World Record holder, who performed along with her all-girl band.

Jyoti Mahipal, Association President of Inner Wheel Clubs in India, said that 44 women travelled from different cities across India at their own cost to participate in this league.

The IWCL is an annual women’s cricket carnival organized by Inner Wheel, one of the world’s largest women’s voluntary organizations focused on friendship, service, and international understanding. The first league was held in November 2024 in Haryana, India, with six teams, aiming to promote women in sports and strengthen community engagement.
