Kia Eyes Million Sale Milestone, Honda Has Smooth Ride

The new Sonet emerged as the highest-selling model for Kia India in May 2024, with 7,433 units

MUMBAI, June 1 (The CONNECT) – Premium car brands Honda and Kia have reported comfortable sales despite the heatwave across the country.

Kia India registered the sale of 19,500 units in May 2024. The company recorded a Y-o-Y growth of over 3.9% compared to 18,766 units in the corresponding month of the last year.

Launched in January 2024, the new Sonet emerged as the highest-selling model for Kia India in May 2024, with 7,433 units, closely followed by Seltos and Carens with 6,736 and 5,316 units, respectively. Kia also dispatched 2,304 units to overseas markets in the month, taking the production figure of Kia to 21,804 units.

With this, the company surpassed the 2.5 Lakh export milestone to over 100 countries. Seltos contributes the majority, with almost 60% of exports from India accounted for by the model. Sonet and Carens follow Seltos with 34% and 7% of the company’s overseas dispatches, respectively.

Hardeep Singh Brar – Senior Vice President and Head Sales & Marketing at Kia India, said, “So far in this year, we have been aggressive in introducing new competitive variants of our models, which has contributed significantly to our sales. With a robust network expansion strategy in place, we shall continue to grow in the rest of the year and cross 1 million domestic sales milestone soon”.

Within a short span of nearly five years, Kia has cemented its position as one of the leading car brands in the country. The company has sold more than 9.8 Lakh units in the domestic market, with Seltos contributing almost 50% of the total. Kia India has announced that its two global models, World car of the year EV9 and the new Carnival, will be launched in India in the second half of the year.

Honda Cars India Ltd. (HCIL) registered total sales of 11,343 units in May’24 as compared to 5,247 units in May’23. Domestic sales of the company stood at 4,822 units and 6521 units of exports in the month of May’24. The company had registered 4,660 units in domestic sales and exported 587 units in May’ 23.

Kunal Behl, Vice President, Marketing & Sales, Honda Cars India Ltd. said, “The market conditions were challenging during May’24 as industry experienced weaker showroom traffic amidst ongoing heat wave conditions in most parts of the country. We aligned our sales plan during the month, focusing on retail and creating comfortable buying experience for our customers. While we expect conditions to get more conducive with onset of monsoons in June, we have rolled out attractive Honda Summer Bonanza campaign this month to make the car purchase more rewarding. On the export front, we continued our strong run led by Elevate volumes, and have emerged as a significant contributor to the ‘Make in India’ movement in the industry.”

Meanwhile, the company launched “Honda Summer Bonanza” – a month-long promotional campaign offering attractive benefits and assured gifts on purchase of its premium range of cars including Honda Elevate, Honda City, City e:HEV and Honda Amaze . This special campaign is valid from June 1 to June 30, 2024, at all Honda dealerships nationwide*.

Healthy Hyundai: Hyundai Motor India Ltd. (HMIL) registered total sales of 63,551 units (Domestic 49,151 units and Exports 14,400 units) in May 2024. This is an increase of 6.63% compared to total sales in May 2023.

Tarun Garg, COO, Hyundai Motor India Ltd. said, “We have maintained a healthy total sales volume in May 2024, despite a week-long routine bi-annual maintenance shutdown at our Sriperumbudur factory. SUVs continue to be a growth driver for HMIL, accounting for more than 67% of domestic sales last month. Our rural penetration stood at a healthy 20.1% in May.”
