FICCI Ladies Organisation should be a catalyst for cultivating innovation culture in the government schools, says IIM-A Prof
HYDERABAD, Oct 4 (BNC Network) Innovation as a subject must imbibed among school children, said Prof Anil Gupta, a visiting Faculty to IIM-Ahmedabad and founder of Honey Bee Network.
Prof Anil also mooted the idea of a wall in each of the government school buildings can be dedicated to encourage local folk artists. The open places under all flyovers built across country must be given to folk artists and artistic government school kids, he said.
Speaking on “Innovation Antyodaya” during a Gandhi Jayanti event organised by organised by FICCI Ladies Organisation, Hyderabad Chapter, Prof Gupta pointed out unfortunately, none of the Indian school textbooks have lessons on innovation. “When you don’t teach innovation, it doesn't happen,” he said.
Prof Gupta, who is also a member National Innovation Council, said, necessity is the mother of invention. There will have to be innovations wherever there are pain points in communities. Also wherever there are problems, innovative solutions are required.
Narrating an anecdote related to Mahatma Gandhi, Propf Gupta said the Father of The Nation crowd-sourced a solution to promote and encourage innovation through a Charkha Design contest. The competition, organised by the Akhila Bharathiya Charkhaa Worker’s Samiti, had a prize money of Rs one lakh.

Prof Gupta told FLO to be a catalyst for cultivating innovation culture in the government schools and suggested to the organization to set up Innovations Clubs and celebrate innovation.
Asking FLO members to be on the lookout for unmet need and find out a solutions. Telangana may have roughly 20,000 villages. FLO can spread innovation culture to all these places.
In her opening remarks, Priya Gazdar, Honorary Secretary, FLO recalled how one could draw inspiration from two great leaders whose birth anniversaries the nation celebrated on October 2.
FLO Chairperson Usharani Manne in her welcome address said Prof Gupta has been partnering with UNDP Global to build capacities of their Accelerator Labs in 78 countries.
