For many people, the pandemic is a source of fear – but it can also be a source of hope that we can defeat COVID19, and we can defeat HIV, Dr Tedros said.
MUMBAI, Nov 30 (BNC Network) – The pandemic will end.
Striking this optimistic note, WHO Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus today said that “we all have to a part to play.”
The reason for Dr Tedros’ optimism is the happy news about COVID vaccine from various researchers.
"He also expressed happiness at the “first decline in newly-reported COVID19 cases globally since September”. This, he said, was mainly due to a decrease in cases in Europe thanks to the effectiveness of difficult but necessary measures put in place in recent weeks.
The pandemic has taught that in the face of an urgent health threat, the world can come together in new ways to defeat it. For many people, the pandemic is a source of fear – but it can also be a source of hope that we can defeat COVID19, and we can defeat HIV, Dr Tedros said.
Yet, this is no time to relax. Gains can easily be lost, and there was still an increase in COVID19 cases in most other regions of the world, and an increase in deaths, he said.
"This is no time for complacency, esp. with the holiday season approaching in many cultures and countries. We all want to be together with the people we love during festive periods. But being with family & friends is not worth putting them or yourself at risk,” Dr Tedros said.
Continuing the note caution he said: "If you feel unwell, don't travel,”
