MUMBAI, Sep 11 (BNC Network) Even as the BMC hammer demolished some “unauthorized structures” at Bollywood star Kangana Ranaut leading a huge outcry, a startling fact has come to light: Half of Mumbai’s building do not have the mandatory Occupancy Certificate (OC).

This means the people staying in these buildings are paying water and power bills at whopping commercial rates. Reports say Maha RERA has taken serious view of this.

This also brings the safety of such buildings into question as the BMC ought to certify the structural fitness before allowing people to occupy them.

Veteran real estate journalist Varun Singh writes:

Mumbai has over two lakh structures in the city. Of which real estate experts claim that around 50 per cent do not have an Occupation Certificate (OC).
