Hyderabad bids for Olympics

Young India Sports University from June next, says CM Revanth Reddy.
HYDERABAD, Aug 27 (The CONNECT) – With Olympic medals as a goal, the Telangana government will start Young India Sports University in in the next academic year.
Stating this Chief Minister Revanth Reddy said the state will rope in international-level coaches. “We have told the Union Minister that we will prepare our stadiums with international standards so that the Olympics can be held in Hyderabad,” Reddy said at the 13th edition of the NMDC Hyderabad Marathon on Sunday.
India’s performance in the last Olympics is not so impressive. “We hope to produce maximum participants from Telangana in the next Olympics to be held in 2028,” he said.
Telangana shall be a care-of address for sports in the country, he declared.
The Marathon, powered by IDFC First Bank, saw three different categories of runs—10K, Full Marathon and Half Marathon. The Hyderabad event kickstarts the marathon season in India.
While 25,500+ runners registered for the event, there were saw 12,000 finishers. The event saw all round participation from corporates, PSUs, Government entities, institutions, the police and the Army etc.
The event also saw 50 elite runners registered.
The NMDC Hyderabad Marathon is the second-largest Marathon in India and a World Athletics Basic Label race
The Marathon raised money for 13 charity partners, NGOs and Charity organizations and a total of ₹ 80 lakh charity amount was raised
The total prize money was ₹ 48,00,000 – across 3 race categories for the top 3 finishers in the male & female categories
In all 600 paramedics, 22 Medical Stations 16 ambulances and 12 bike ambulances from Care Hospitals were pressed into service to ensure the safety of the runners.
The Hyderabad Runners Society collaborated with Google Maps to minimise inconvenience to commuters.

Rajesh Vetcha, founder of Hyderabad Runners Society said what started small with 5 members at KBR park in the year 2007 today it is the second largest marathon in the country in terms of participation, placing Hyderabad on international sports calendar.
