Industry Contributes To 40% Of Carbon Footprint
The marginalised do not have much of a say in dialogues around environmental issues, says Sandhya Naidu Janardhan of Community Design Agency
MUMBAI, June 4 (The CONNECT) – The construction industry contributes nearly 40% to the total carbon footprint in the world, says Sandhya Naidu Janardhan, Founder & MD, Community Design Agency. “As architects, engineers, real estate developers, etc who work in allied fields, we have no choice but to be more responsible, careful and thoughtful in how we design and build,” Sandhya said in her Environment Day message.
In her experience of working with some of the most vulnerable and marginalised communities, the impact of climate change is visible and alarming, she said.
“The aim should not only be to build safe and healthy spaces for people, but also ensure that they are safe and healthy for the environment. More importantly, as a group that is disproportionately impacted by climate change, the marginalised do not have much of a say in dialogues around environmental issues,” Sandhya pointed out.
“We must strive to empower them to have greater agency in these conversations,” she added.
